El 6 de diciembre nos reunimos para conversar sobre las diferencias y similitudes entre el hombre y la mujer. Sabemos que existen diferencias dadas por la biología (estructura del cerebro, hormonas, diferencias en los caracteres sexuales secundarios, etc.) y también otras determinadas por la cultura. Por lo tanto, iniciamos la charla a partir de una pregunta: ¿cómo criamos a nuestros hijos y nuestras hijas?, ¿hacemos diferencias, cuáles? Esta pregunta, aparentemente tan elemental, fue formulada para que nos diéramos cuenta de que la cultura no es algo lejano a nosotras, sino que, como miembros de una sociedad, somos las portadoras y responsables de la cultura.
  Si bien casi todas coincidimos en dar a nuestras hijas mujeres las mismas posibilidades y estímulos que a nuestros hijos varones, algunos comentarios giraron en torno a la lucha que se debió desarrollar contra viejos conceptos acerca del papel de la mujer en la vida diaria, tales como que la mujer se “debe” quedar en la casa para cuidar a los hijos y que “no debe” estudiar ni trabajar.
  En la prehistoria los hombres eran cazadores y las mujeres recolectoras. Los hombres protegían a la familia de los peligros del mundo exterior y las mujeres criaban a los hijos en el mundo interior.
  Distintos cuerpos propiciaron distintas actividades (parir, cazar, criar, defender/luchar) y al mismo tiempo, las distintas actividades generaron diferencias en el modo de percibir al otro y al mundo en general.
  Cuando se les pidió a las participantes que pensaran cuáles eran las diferencias más sobresalientes, con comentarios plenos de humor y anécdotas respondieron lo siguiente:
  -Ante un problema, las mujeres necesitan hablar sobre él, comunicar sus emociones, y los hombres prefieren callar e intentar una solución sin transmitir su preocupación.
  -Los hombres se concentran en una sola actividad por vez y las mujeres tienen la capacidad de hacer varias cosas al mismo tiempo.
  -Las mujeres tienen facilidad para ponerse en el lugar del otro (empatía), tal vez esto se deba a que es una habilidad necesaria en la crianza de los niños (así como la posibilidad de estar atentas a varios estímulos y actividades).

Más allá de las diferencias, tanto los hombres como las mujeres queremos ser comprendidos y amados, y si bien a veces es difícil entender al otro, la satisfacción de conseguir logros comunes bien vale un poco de negociación y paciencia.
